Application Information Member of Indonesian Academy of Independent Mediators and Arbitrators

 

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of the Indonesian Academy of Independent Mediators and Arbitrators (“MedArbId”). MedArbId is an association of independent mediators and arbitrators established on 17 August 2015, and we are committed to develop Indonesia as a potential center for arbitration and mediation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Members of the MedArbId comprises of individuals who are interested in alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation and arbitration. In general, MedArbId serves as a platform for a diverse pool of highly regarded professionals from the business and legal communities to who are looking to improve their alternative dispute resolution skills and knowledge, specifically in the filed of arbitration and mediation. MedArbId membership titles are categorized into five groups: Student, Associate, Member, and Fellow.

MedArbId accepts applicants based on, among others, the current need, national diversity, and user preferences. A special committee comprised of MedArbId Executive Staff and external counsel will screen candidates for their substantive expertise, commitment, ethics, training, and suitability in the field of dispute resolution before granting membership status. Members are required to demonstrate strong academic background and professional honors in their respective fields.

 

Qualifications

Applicants for the MedArbId membership must meet the following requirements:

 

1. General Requirements:

 

  1. Upholds integrity and fairness
  2. Familiar and/or has experience in managing cases and legal documents
  3. Thorough and impartial evaluation of testimony and other evidence
  4. Membership in other professional association(s)
  5. Have related experiences or accomplishments (e.g. published articles)
  6. Honors, awards, and citations indicating leadership in relevant field
  7. Training and substantial experience in arbitration, mediation, and/or other forms of out-of-court dispute resolution
  8. Willingness to devote time and effort to build MedArbId
  9. Willingness to participate in continuing education programs pursuant to MedArbId Guidelines
  10. Letters of recommendation from active legal professionals

 

2. Specific Requirements

  • Associate

Associate level membership requires the following:

  • Fit and proper person; and
  • Have successfully completed introductory courses in alternative dispute resolution or an equivalent qualification from a recognized course provider; and
  • A minimum of six-months’ experience in dispute avoidance or dispute management; and
  • Two references required.
  • Fee: Onetime non-refundable registration fee of USD 15 and Annual Subscription fee of USD 50

 

  • Member

Member level membership requires the following:

  • Successful completed a course as to Law, Practice and Procedure of Domestic/International Arbitration from a recognized course provider Complete equivalent course from recognized course provider
  • Alternatively, the candidate must have a minimum of 5 years experience in arbitration, construction adjudication or mediation in a lead/sole capacity
  • Fee: Onetime non-refundable registration fee of USD 25 and Annual Subscription fee of USD 100=

 

  •  Fellow

Fellow level membership requires the following:

  • Successful completed a course as to Law of Obligations, Evidence, Decision Making and Award Writing of Domestic/International Arbitration from a recognized course provider;

Or, alternatively, the candidate must have:

  • Minimum of 7 years working experience in arbitration, construction adjudication or mediation in a lead/sole capacity;
  • Knowledge of law on obligations and evidence at first-degree level or recognized equivalent or understanding of law relevant to mediation practice or recognized equivalent;
  • Experience in writing direction and final, reasoned awards or decisions or mediation agreements, heads of agreements, or memorandums of understanding; and
  • Passing a Peer Interview for Fellowship
  • Fee: Onetime non-refundable registration fee of USD 50 and Annual Subscription fee of USD 150

 

3. Personal Statement

In addition to the requirements above, applicants are required to submit a personal statement letter (maximum of two pages) that should at least explain: (i) why he or she is interested in joining MedArbid, (ii) what he or she can contribute to the betterment of MedArbId, and (iii) why he or she should be accepted as a Member of MedArbId.

4. Curriculum Vitae

Enclosed to the Personal Statement, applicants must submit their most recent Curriculum Vitae, particularly highlighting the details of the experiences in dispute resolution.
